**About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Counsellor to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients for the Alcohol and Drug Contact Centre.

We are seeking someone with appropriate knowledge and skills to provide counselling via telephone and webchat to clients. They will be expected to work within a strengths-based and harm-minimisation framework and deliver high quality person-centred drug and alcohol counselling, including bio-psychosocial assessments, evidence-based brief interventions, health education and advice, and referrals to external agencies.

The role works within the Alcohol and Drug Contact Centre which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing multiple state-wide counselling and support services to people who use alcohol and/or other drugs.

This position is expected to work across the following service lines:

- Alcohol and Drug Information Service (including WebChat)
- Opioid Treatment Line
- Stimulant Treatment Line
- ACT Quitline
- 1300DRIVER
- Cannabis Caution
- Western Australia Alcohol and Drug Support Services (overnight only)
- Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service
- SafeScript NSW Clinical Advice Line

**Selection Criteria**:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in counselling, social work, psychology, or a related field and eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
3. Demonstrated relevant clinical alcohol and drug experience including assessment, brief intervention and counselling of clients with substance use problems and co-existing mental health issues.
4. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary approaches to alcohol and drug treatment, including harm reduction, person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
5. Ability to identify clients’ specific needs and provide the appropriate assessments, interventions and approaches for an effective solution.
6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills (including via telephone and typing), including a minimum typing speed of 40 WPM.
7. High level computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and previous experience with electronic patient record systems.
8. Highly developed interpersonal skills.
