**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The Advisor Novel DCV Policy will be responsible for leading and driving reforms to AMSA’s regulatory framework to facilitate the adoption of new technologies across the domestic fleet. This will include researching and developing policy and standards in relation to alternative fuels, connected and autonomous operations and other emerging technologies, including supporting delivery of greener vessels, safety benefits and efficiencies.

Working with a small team and assisting the Principal Advisor Novel DCV Policy, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of technology and policy development. Given the cross-cutting nature of this work, you will be comfortable presenting, meeting, talking and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure ideas and project information is readily captured and reflected into policy within the risk tolerance of the organisation.

You will be responsible for:

- Leading and driving AMSA’s approach to new technologies, including providing technical advice and assisting in developing solutions that decrease the types of vessels AMSA considers novel over time.
- Representing AMSA in engagement and consultation processes with industry stakeholders and other agencies on a wide range of future maritime technology safety regulatory issues.
- Assist in the preparation of high quality future maritime technology discussions, advice and briefing papers.
- Assist in the preparation of high quality responses to a large volume of internal and external queries relating to new technologies and novel vessels.

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**

To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

- A keen interest in emerging maritime technologies with the ability to drive change in a technical or project environment.
- An understanding of, or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding of, the maritime safety framework and knowledge of relevant national and international standards for domestic commercial vessels.
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with stakeholders both internal and external to AMSA.
- Experience working within the areas of science, technology or engineering would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of risk management approaches and desire to work in a safety-first culture.
