**This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. **What you'll be doing**:
An exciting opportunity to join the NBMLHD team as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner on a permanent full time basis. Community Health Care offers a supportive and inclusive team environment with opportunities for development.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will work in partnership with Primary Care and Community Health (PCCH) and within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal patients & their families.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will also provide cultural support, education & referral for Aboriginal clients and act as a liaison between Aboriginal families and the health service.

**Selection criteria to be addressed**:

- This is an identified Aboriginal position. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community
- Has undertaken or is willing to undertake a minimum Certificate III Aboriginal Primary Health Care (including undergoing recognition of prior learning processes against current qualifications)
- Demonstrated understanding of the health issues impacting on Aboriginal clients & their families
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise/negotiate with other health professionals to facilitate and promote culturally sensitive health care
- Ability to work autonomously within the scope of practice and plan and prioritise work load effectively and efficiently
- Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and basic computer skills
- Current NSW State driver's licence (including P1 or above) and willingness to use for work purposes. This may include driving long distances across the LHD.
