**About Us**
- Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean and Blue Mountains and Lithgow Region.
- NBMLHD’s Population Health Division is responsible for addressing primary and secondary disease prevention within the local community through Health Promotion, HIV and Related Programs Multicultural Health. Our work is delivered through individual service delivery, Population level health promotion programs and capacity building initiates to members of priority populations on priority issues.

Opportunity for an Aboriginal person to work and gain a postgraduate degree through the NSW Health Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative (APHTI).
- The APHTI is a three-year workplace based training program. Trainees undertake part-time study towards a Master of Public Health degree at a NSW university, paid for by NSW Health, and undertake a series of population health work placements. These placements will be project-based and will further the development and implementation of population health strategies to protect and promote the health of people within the Nepean Blue Mountains region. - Trainees will undertake placements that provide a broad experience of population health practice. These placements will be in services such as Aboriginal Health, Multicultural Health, Health Promotion and Public Health.
- The trainee will connect with other trainees across the state and will be supported through the program by the NBMLHD APHTI Coordinator. NBMLHD also has an Aboriginal Employment Coordinator and regular meetings specifically for Aboriginal employees. Additional cultural support will be provided by a member of the Aboriginal Health Unit.

**What you will bring to the role**
- This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position and, as such, applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in their local community, and possess the requisite cultural knowledge. NBMLHD considers that being Aboriginal is genuine occupational qualification under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Demonstrated understanding of the Australian health system.
- Sound knowledge of social, cultural, political and health issues affecting Aboriginal people, families and communities and demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of Aboriginal health.
- Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to set and meet priorities, particularly in meeting competing priorities within work and between work and study.
- Successful completion of a recognised undergraduate degree and/or ability to meet the admission requirements for the post graduate degree of Master of Public Health at a university in NSW.
- Desirable: one years’ experience in health-related full-time equivalent employment. Health-related employment may involve employment with a service delivering healthcare but may also include community development, childcare, education, fitness industry or other relevant fields/areas.
- Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been _identified_ and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa._
