The NPCC program is a new national palliative care project established through funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. The position holder will join a team of well-established investigators from across Australia that have a close relationship with the national Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration at the University of Wollongong, and a rich knowledge of palliative care research, policy, and practice.
The NPCC program is designed to help deliver a sustainable health system solution that is responsive to the increasing burden of chronic conditions by increasing (needs-based) access to palliative care, particularly for underserved populations, and improving collaboration and coordination of palliative care (e.g., between generalist and specialist palliative care).
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated researcher with strong experience in mixed methods research and palliative care to join a new national palliative care research program for a period of three years.
The new program is called the National Palliative Care Coordination Program (NPPC), which aims to:
- Distinguish between generalist and specialist palliative care in Australia,
- Establish national specialist palliative care referral and discharge criteria, and
- Progress needs-based assessment tools to ensure that the complexity and severity of patients’ and carers’ needs determine the type of care they receive and the setting in which it is delivered.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the program, making a substantive contribution to the research outputs (publications, presentations, frameworks), with opportunities to lead on aspects of the program.
Working collaboratively in a dynamic, multiprofessional research and implementation team, amidst a program of work that is expanding forms part of this job. Harnessing your commitment to excellence and quality, you will take a lead role in shaping the future coordination of generalist and specialist palliative care and how best to respond to the needs of caregivers.
Key responsibilities include: driving a program of research; managing the day-to-day delivery of the project, and collaborating with key medical, nursing and allied health stakeholders and other experts from across Australia.
