About the Roles

The Research Fellow/s will work on the NHRA-funded research project “Natural hazards and resilience in complex urban systems”. Specifically, the research aims to investigate in what ways and under what conditions optimal investments can be made to advance disaster resilience within major urban areas in Australia.

In this work, the first Research Fellow role will engage in research on practices and processes used to prioritise, influence, and undertake urban resilience investments, including a review of practices as well as the development of draft process principles and standards for prioritising and influencing urban resilience investment.

The other Research Fellow will engage in research on conceptualising and mapping vulnerabilities and resilience, including a review of practices as well as the development of a tool or guide and a proof of concept case study.

Both Research Fellows will be expected to undertake document analysis and face-to-face interviews and/or focus groups. You will be a key team member in the collection and analysis of data.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

- Evidence of experience in social science research methods, including both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Ability to conduct timely management of research projects and coordinate teams.
- Evidence of experience in research on disaster preparedness, response and/or recovery.
- Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs evidenced by academic or non-academic publications, new research initiatives, competitive research funding, or industry links.
- Ability to build effective networks with colleagues

Qualifications:
Mandatory: PhD or Masters in relevant field such as (but not limited to) urban studies; disaster and/or climate resilience; the social sciences (e.g., psychology or sociology); organisational studies; or fire, civil or humanitarian engineering.
