If so, you may be well suited to one of our Director roles which supports Defence’s naval shipbuilding and sustainment (NSS) enterprise.

Modernisation of Australia’s naval forces is a complex, national endeavour which has a vast reach across Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies, Defence industry, international and domestic partners and suppliers, education, security and training sectors. We are investing in Australia’s future generations for years to come.

Defence has a planned investment in naval shipbuilding and sustainment, to support Australia’s naval capability, over $200 billion out to the 2060s. We need capable, enthusiastic, driven and positive leaders and managers who can help us improve the management and delivery of Defence’s NSS enterprise.

We have a number of challenging and rewarding Executive Level 2 roles which will lead strategic, collaborative, consultative and value-adding function and services to support maritime acquisition and sustainment. Many of the roles are new - all of the positions will make a real difference.

Directors will join a broader management team and, as part of this, be required to proactively and positively contribute to leading an NSS enterprise organisation and cultural change program.

Importantly, you will enhance staff capability, and model and sustain a safe and supportive culture which promotes continuous improvement.

All roles require the successful applicant(s) to demonstrate EL2 level appropriate core competences.

These include:
**Leading and deciding**
As a leader you will demonstrate the ability to provide others with clear direction, set appropriate standards of behaviour and delegate work appropriately and fairly. You will motivate and empower others by providing staff with development opportunities and coaching. You will be required to take responsibility and calculated risks; and to exercise initiative.

**Strategic skills and judgement**
As a strategist, you will proactively set and develop strategies that identify and develop a positive and compelling vision of your team’s potential. You will consistently demonstrate the ability to translate high level strategic guidance into practical business outcomes.

**Communication**
Your communication will make a strong personal impression on others by gaining clear agreement and commitment through persuading, convincing and negotiating. You will promote ideas on behalf of self or others as well as making effective use of political and departmental processes to influence and persuade others.

**Stakeholder management**
You will establish sound relationships with customers, stakeholders and staff. You will build wide and effective networks both within and outside of the NSS enterprise. You will manage conflict effectively and relate well to people at all levels.

**Ability to achieve results**
You will possess a proven ability to focus on customer needs and satisfaction and set high standards for quality and quantity. You will work in a systematic, methodical and orderly way and consistently achieve project goals.
