**Scientific Officer - Herpetology**

**About the Project**

The Australian Museum has recently received research grant funding for research on frogs and reptiles with a focus on the Northern Wheatbelt of New South Wales. The project is research-based but also involves the promotion and use of data from the FrogID project, a national citizen science project helping us better understand and conserve frogs. The project lead is Dr. Jodi Rowley. We are looking for a fixed term scientific officer to join the project team.

**About the Role**

The Scientific Officer - Herpetology is a crucial role that sits within the Herpetology team. This role is offered on a temporary basis for two years. The role is full time.

The Scientific Officer
- Herpetology will be responsible for increasing the impact of science at the Australian Museum by undertaking scientific work supporting the Curator of Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Biology in implementing an innovative, field-based research on the ecology and conservation of Australian frogs (primarily) and reptiles (secondarily). The role will involve field surveys, spatial analysis, scientific writing and community engagement.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary of $70,694 - $109,194, plus the employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 11%) and annual leave loading.

**About You**

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Demonstrated capacity to conduct field-based research on amphibians or reptiles.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret biodiversity data, with particular focus on spatial data.
- Proven ability to prepare scientific publications and to present research to wide audiences.
- Research experience with a strong background relevant to the Museum’s research priorities
- Current full NSW Driver’s license.

Essential requirements
- PhD in Biological Sciences or equivalent research experience
