**Strategic Advisor**: Mathematics Improvement - Fixed Term - Full Time
**The Strategic Advisor**: Mathematics Improvement will drive change in numeracy and mathematics outcomes in Victorian government schools. This will involve developing and implementing strategic policy and policy advice at a system level, framed around the core elements and dimensions of the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0, as well as through engagement with contemporary evidence and research.
This work will involve working with the four department Regions to identify key mathematics teaching and learning needs at the school level and translating these into priority policies. The role will also require work across different central office Branches and Divisions to identify and systemise core actions for mathematics improvement that address the underlying causes of low achievement and growth in student learning. The role will also play a key role in the development and implementation of new mathematics lesson plans as well as guidance for schools in the teaching of mathematics and numeracy.
A key aspect of the role will be providing guidance and strategic advice on the development of new department resources, such as the lesson plans, and ensuring coherence of the suite of department mathematics on the new Arc platform through the Mathematics Teaching Toolkit
This is a fixed term role ending 31 December 2025.

About the role
Reporting to the Director, Numeracy, STEM Education and Digital Learning, you will help to drive change in numeracy and mathematics outcomes in Victorian government schools through the development of and implementation of strategic policy and policy advice at a system level.
In this role you will primarily work with the four department Regions to identify key mathematics teaching and learning needs at the school level and translate these into priority policies. This core work will also involve engaging with different central office Branches and Divisions to identify and systemise core actions for mathematics improvement that address the underlying causes of low achievement and growth in student learning.
A secondary aspect of this role will be providing guidance and strategic advice on the development of new department resources, such as the lesson plans, and ensuring coherence of the suite of department mathematics on the new Arc platform through the Mathematics Teaching Toolkit.

What you will bring
- A passion for, and knowledge in, mathematics education - and a commitment to improving educational outcomes for young people
- High quality writing skills ideally in a Government setting, with demonstrated expertise in the preparation of concise and influential briefs and strategic papers
- Proven experience proactively managing projects through to implementation, including anticipating risks to develop mitigation strategies
- Proven experience managing diverse internal and external stakeholders and building collaborative relationships to achieve buy-in on complex strategies
