**About the Role**

The Research Associate will contribute to the research efforts of the Future Industries Institute, in particular will undertake research on the project titled “Thermal Energy Storage for Food/Grain Drying with CST/RE to Lower Pollution” via a Commonwealth Simple Grant Agreement between the Commonwealth represented by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, and the University of South Australia.

**Core Responsibilities**
- Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes; i.e. develop and test a renewable energy driven, food drying technology using low-cost thermal energy storage
- Design and perform a range of experiments including appropriate controls to achieve planned research outcomes
- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
- Provide advice to post graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise.
- Undertake administrative duties associated with relevant research projects, as required from time to time

**Essential Skills and Experience**

Position 1: Full-time
- A postgraduate qualification in an appropriate Science or Engineering area relevant to the research area, or equivalent experience
- Experience in designing, prototyping and testing thermal energy storage systems that exceed operation at 500 °C
- Demonstrated proficiency in operating X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) equipment, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results
- Evidence of high quality research output commensurate with the length of research career, which is published and presented in appropriate forums
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports and research publications, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students

Position 2: Part-time (0.8FTE)
- A PhD qualification in Mechanical Engineering and research experience relevant to the research area
- Demonstrated skills and experience in computer modelling of thermal energy storage systems and proficient use of Ansys software
- Evidence of high quality research output commensurate with the length of research career, which is published and presented in appropriate forums
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports, research publications and educational materials, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students
- Ability to plan and execute testing and research with stakeholders
