**About the Role**

The Research Associate: Characterisation of Soft Interfaces will contribute to the research effort of Future Industries Institute (FII) and develop expertise through strategic basic and applied research projects. In particular, this position will undertake research into the impact of novel polymers and surfactants adsorbing at solid-liquid and fluid-liquid interfaces.

**Core Responsibilities**
- Conduct high-quality research, under limited supervision and in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders to achieve project grant outcomes
- Design and perform a range of experiments including appropriate controls to achieve planned research outcomes, including the study of interfacial tension of droplets and bubbles, and the adsorption of polymers and peptides on solid (QCM, FTIR, AFM) and droplet surfaces
- Design and perform experiments on the characterisation of liquid-liquid interfaces using Synchrotron scattering techniques
- Under the direction of the Research Professors, provide advice to postgraduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise and assist in lab management as required
- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- A PhD degree in physical chemistry, materials science, or related discipline
- Demonstrated skills and experience in experiments including the study of the adsorption of surfactants, polymers and peptides on solid (using QCM, FTIR, AFM) and droplet surfaces
- Demonstrated skills in perform experiments on the characterisation of liquid-liquid interfaces using Synchrotron scattering techniques
- A record of peer reviewed publications and conference presentations commensurate with opportunity
- Proven ability to work cooperatively in a research team with staff and students from diverse backgrounds
