An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1977 NSW. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria below. We're looking for an Aboriginal Health Worker with demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with Aboriginal consumers, families and communities across NSW with complex health needs and drug and alcohol issues. Someone with demonstrated knowledge and experience working with community based networks and demonstrated understanding of evidence based drug and alcohol treatment approaches.

Here at Justice Health NSW, The Aboriginal Health Worker will:

- Enable access to health care for Aboriginal people with substance dependence needs by ensuring systems, services and processes are established and maintained between Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (Justice Health NSW) custodial and community drug and alcohol services and other key services (including non-government, primary care, social support, justice and mental health services).
- Co-ordinate a range of preventative, health and social care wrap around responses for Aboriginal patients to improve collaboration, engagement, navigation and service coordination between custodial and community drug and alcohol services, at critical transition points in care. The role will provide cultural expertise to stakeholders and partner with services to ensure the cultural needs of the consumer are considered and met.
- Support clinical teams in the development of culturally informed assessment and treatment approaches for stimulant and alcohol treatment pathways, and ensure the social, cultural and historical contexts are appreciated and reflected in the way drug and alcohol services are offered.
- Ensure drug and alcohol treatment and care builds on the strengths, resources and knowledge of Aboriginal consumers and be responsible for supporting the broader drug and alcohol health system (including the Walama List) to increase their capacity to work with Aboriginal people, families and communities in a culturally safe manner.

The Aboriginal Health Worker (HM1) will work within Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JH&FMHN) and Ministry of Health policies, procedures and guidelines as well as Corrective Services NSW or Juvenile Justice NSW rules and regulations as set out in the relevant legislation.
