**What you'll be doing**:
The Mental Health Clinician - Suicide Prevention works with other health professionals to support people experiencing acute psychological distress and suicidal crisis. The Safe Haven is integrated within the Penrith Head to Health Centre.

Your role as the Mental Health Clinician will work alongside Head to Health staff to support delivery of all services within the centre.

This position will see you work in the Penrith Head to Health Centre including Safe Haven, as well as work within other parts of the Mental Health Service as needed or desired. You will provide a compassionate, trauma-informed response to consumers experiencing suicidal crisis and acute psychological distress and conduct mental health assessments and safety planning, and work with acute mental health service clinicians to provide timely and appropriate care whilst providing culturally responsive support that respects differing world views and understandings of mental health and wellbeing.

The service will operate both within business hours and after hours. Regular evening and weekend work will be a requirement of the role.

**Selection criteria to be addressed**:

- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and including eligibility for membership of relevant professional body &/or full registration (if applicable) with AHPRA
- Sound understanding of contemporary evidence based suicide prevention and Zero Suicides in Care frameworks, and ability to utilise this in practice
- Demonstrated clinical experience in, and commitment to recovery-orientated and trauma-informed mental health care for people experiencing acute psychological distress/suicidal crisis
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate meaningfully with consumers and carers with a commitment and understanding of recovery principles in mental health service provision
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit a diverse range of consumers, carers and health care providers
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles and values of Peer work
- Current driver's licence and willingness to use for work purpose. This may include driving long distances across the Local Health District
