**Location**: Leichhardt Community Corrections

We serve the Gadigal and Wangal people and acknowledge that they are the heirs and custodians of the land and waterways which make up the Inner West of Metropolitan Sydney. Leichhardt District Office, incorporating Bwaga Ngara Redfern (A Safe Place To hear and Listen), is a large dynamic office committed to listening to the voice of our First Nations leaders. We provide services to the Inner West including the suburbs of Redfern, Waterloo and Glebe. Our commitment is, to make a significant difference for all First Nations clients placed under our care, specifically to achieve better outcomes by partnering with local agencies and services. Our vision is to break down barriers impeding client engagement with Community Corrections by providing a holistic, culturally relevant level of support.

**What we’re looking for**

We recognise the importance of connection with our local communities and we are looking for proactive, dedicated and innovative individuals to join our team as Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officers at the Leichhardt Community Corrections District Office **_(2 positions)._**

**What you’ll do**

As an Aboriginal Community Engagement and Culture Officer you will provide advice and support to Community Corrections in the case management of identified offender groups in a culturally sensitive manner and ensure appropriate case plans and supervision is implemented consistent with CSNSW mission of reduction of re-offending.

You will also identify and build collaborative community networks and partnerships to improve the effectiveness of community offender programs for identified offender groups.

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons._ _Department of Communities & Justice considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977

**Essential requirements**

- Current and valid driving licence and willingness to travel within NSW
- Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and history

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows.

Either will be accepted:

- Confirmation of Aboriginality form

or
- Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
