**Your role**

As the NSW State Emergency Service Commissioner, you will be responsible for managing and controlling the activities of the NSW SES in accordance with the State Emergency Service Act 1989. This is a highly varied role, where you will be working as part of a diverse team to deliver excellence in community preparedness and emergency response.

**What you’ll do**

You will be responsible for setting and leading the strategic direction and public administration of NSW SES, ensuring the achievement of the agency’s mission, vision, and objectives in line with legislative requirements, government and community expectations, budget and resource constraints, and strategic goals.

You will also:

- **
Drive** excellence in the delivery of emergency response and rescue services, including for floods, storm operations, tsunamis, road accidents, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, and other forms of specialist rescue.
- ** Build** the capability and performance of NSW SES as a government agency, ensuring the achievement of government policy and direction.
- ** Deliver **strategic plans that align with the NSW SES vision and support interagency and cross-sector coordination, to maximise effective management in natural disaster and emergency events.
- ** Direct **governance, management and continuous improvement/reform for NSW SES’s operational service delivery and support functions, to maximise the agency’s effectiveness at helping the community to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency events.
- ** Manage **resources, programs, processes, staff, and volunteers to ensure the optimal use of resources, whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- ** Lead **the Senior Leadership Team in providing direction and guidance on the key priorities of NSW SES, including by providing evidence-based advice and recommendations to key stakeholders on matters relating to government emergency service strategies and planning.
- ** Oversee **the growth and retention of NSW SES’s volunteer members, by ensuring an enhanced volunteer experience.

**What we’re looking for**
- Relevant leadership experience in an operational or service delivery role
- Knowledge of legislation, statutory requirements, policies and procedures for effective emergency management and public administration
- Commitment to saving lives and creating safer communities through community preparedness and emergency response efforts.
- Ability to work well under pressure and stay calm in emergency situations.
