The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking a qualified and experienced Managing Registrar Collection Access to join our Collections and Access team in this ongoing APS 6 position.

Working within the Collections and Access team this position helps preserve and share the Museum’s National Maritime Collection (NMC). This position will manage risk to historic objects during movement, installation, use in programs and exhibitions, and in storage. Managing a team and projects the Managing Registrar Collections and Access will deliver high quality care, documentation and security of the collection and other maritime historic material in the Museum’s care, while balancing access to the collection with preservation.
**High level overview of accountabilities**:
- Developing and implementing procedures and policies for collection operations and access, including object transport and storage, object handling, security, and inventory in compliance with industry best practice.
- Identifying future collection storage requirements and developing and implementing programs for collection storage improvements with a focus on object care, storage efficiency and in support of collection access programs.
- Collaborating with exhibition and program stakeholders on the movement and installation of objects, advising on their safe display, transport, and handling and exhibition project phasing and object delivery and install schedules.
- Collaborating with the Managing Registrar Collection Management to ensure that the documentation of historic material in the Museum’s care is of a high standard for control, management, and access, and in compliance with relevant legislation and protocols.
- Ensuring a regular program of collection inventories to improve object accountability and maximising opportunities to coordinate collection rehousing and digitisation to improve collection care and access.
- Managing the registration aspects of the Museum’s exhibitions; providing input into exhibition content and scheduling; creating and managing exhibition documentation; providing advice and information related to managing exhibition freight (including international); providing advice and information for internal and external stakeholders and undertaking complex negotiations and arrangements for shipment and object handling.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and museum studies qualifications or related experience and/or training.
- Comprehensive understanding of the role of a Collection and Access or registration team and experience and a detailed operational knowledge of the collection management and documentation requirements and processes involved in a museum or similar institution.
- Demonstrated experience and practical knowledge of the physical, legal, and commercial requirements for the acquisition, loan, movement, and storage of museum material.
- High level communication skills, organisational skills and be able to meet deadlines.
- Experience supervising a team and be able to work both within a team and independently.
- Current NSW driver’s licence, and current forklift, working at heights and traffic management licence would be an advantage.
