**A little bit about us**

The Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR) is the Department's economic and statistical research branch on communications, arts, cities and regional development issues. It supports evidence-based policy and program development and advice and stimulates informed discussion and debate on communications, arts, cities and regional development portfolio issues.

The Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) provides economic analysis, research and statistics on infrastructure and transport issues to inform both Australian Government policy development and wider community understanding. **The opportunity we have available**
This EL1 level opportunity is to work in BCARR or BITRE. We are offering new and existing roles where the right people will have multiple opportunities to shine - working independently and collaboratively as part of a supportive, enthusiastic and positive team, shaping government policy and emerging national data solutions for cities and regions, freight and transport, road safety, communications, arts and infrastructure.

**What will you do?**
As an EL1 the successful applicant would be involved in some or all of the following:
- Contribute to forward-looking economic research and analysis.-
- Conduct data analysis and create data visulisations using software like RStudio, SAS and Power BI, or other public facing materials.-
- Communicate technical findings from a range of quantitative and qualitative data sources to produce clear reasearch and advice.-
- Data governance and management.-
- Work collaboratively in a supportive team that is committed to producing high-quality research and analysis.-
- Play a management role to coordinate the work in terms of other team members, stakeholders, tasks and timeliness.-
- Liaise and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.**Who are we looking for?**
Key skills include ability to manipulate data in Microsoft Excel, data analysis, research, writing, management and strategic thinking. You should be able to analyse trends in data and write commentary on them for a non-technical audience, including discussing implications for policy. You’ll also be expected to quickly familiarise yourself with key datasets and calculation methods, respond to data requests and contribute to research projects.

Desirable (but not essential) knowledge and skills include an economic or statistical background, and the ability to use statistical and GIS programs, such as Power BI, the mapping software ArcGIS, and the statistical packages R and SAS (on the job training will also be provided).
