**A little bit about us**

The Strategy, Economic Policy and Evaluation Branch is the central policy hub within the department. It provides evidence-based advice to ministers and the department’s Senior Executive on the government’s priority policy issues. The Branch is also responsible for First Nations policy issues, through coordination, reporting and alignment of the department’s First Nations commitments, and supporting the department to actively consider First Nations peoples and voices in all aspects of its work. In 2023, a new central evaluation unit has been stood up in the branch which will take the lead on developing the department’s policy evaluation strategy.

The breadth of the Branch’s responsibilities means that it is engaged on a wide range of contemporary policy issues.

**The opportunity we have available**

We are a multi-disciplinary branch and have vacancies for evaluation advisers in the newly formed Evaluation Unit. This opportunity would suit any applicant with evaluation or technical expertise and strong problem solving and communication skills. As a multi-disciplinary branch, we welcome a wide range of skillsets including but not limited to economics, data analysis, public policy, and any field with strong research skills, such as law. There are also potential roles available for applicants in other economic research and data analysis positions across the department.

**What will you do?**

You will contribute to the work of the newly established Evaluation Unit in the Strategy, Economic Policy and Evaluation Branch. Duties will include:
- Assisting to develop and implement a new evaluation strategy and action plan to strengthen the department’s evaluation practices and capabilities-
- Providing tailored support and advice to assist line areas integrate evaluation into program and policy design and to plan, undertake or commission evaluations-
- Promoting and facilitating evaluation capabilities across the department, including through the provision of resources, workshops, training and staff networks-
- Undertaking research and analysis to support better evaluation practices and provide an evidence-based approach-
- Developing persuasive communications materials, including written reports, evaluation plans, factsheets and resources-
- Undertaking strategic planning, project management and coordination-
- Working collaboratively across the department to promote evaluation and ensure coordination and alignment with broader strategies and objectives-
- External stakeholder engagement, including close collaboration with colleagues across the public service to leverage off whole-of-government evaluation initiatives.There is also an opportunity to assist in other short-term policy and research projects underway in the branch.
