**The Role**
We are looking for a Culture and Safety Analyst to inform the effective management of Defence Aviation safety risks. Within a multi-disciplinary team, you will work with two major sources of data;
- Survey data capturing information on issues that impact the safety, performance, health and wellbeing of participating organisations.
- Data from the Defence Aviation safety reporting system used to record and track safety events/issues.

You will be responsible for analysing this data to identify and communicate emerging safety issues. You will also contribute to DFSB data collection, research, education and promotion programs. Broadly speaking, you will:

- Design, administer, analyse and report on an organisational wide safety climate survey.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on aviation safety datasets to inform the effective management of Defence Aviation safety risks.
- Produce statistical reports and conduct research on aviation safety issues and contemporary ‘best practices’ in aviation safety.

**About our Team**
The Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) operates to enhance and promote the safety of military air operations and the airworthiness of state aircraft in Defence. As part of DASA, the Defence Flight Safety Bureau (DFSB) supports the prevention of military aviation accidents and enhances flight safety through a systemic approach to investigation, data collection, research, education and promotion.

The Culture and Safety Analyst will work within the Reporting Intelligence and Research (RIR) directorate within DFSB. RIR drives specialist elements of DFSB’s capability through the development and maintenance of Defence aviation safety reporting and intelligence systems, as well as safety culture, research and applied psychological and human factors-related support and programs. This includes the conduct of organisational wide surveillance of safety climate through the administration of an annual survey and strategic reporting on DFSB datasets.

We are looking for someone with:

- A recognised qualification in statistics or psychology, preferably incorporating research methods and data analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in statistically analysing data that has been captured within an applied setting.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and administration of surveys, preferably those focused on organisational and/or safety climate.
- The ability to communicate key findings to stakeholders in a way that is both useful and easy to understand.
- An eye for data visualisation and its ability to convey information to support informed decision-making.
- A keen attention to detail and ability to identify and recognise errors or challenges that often exist in 'real world' data.
- The ability to resolve problems using their own expertise and taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
- The ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
