This is an exciting time in the Aboriginal Housing space, with many changes at the Commonwealth and State level that are looking to enhance and create new opportunities to improve the housing experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW, across the housing continuum.

The Aboriginal Housing Office is urgently seeking a fun, motivated, and inspired Policy Officer that wants to be part of a team to drive strategic, social housing policy reform. But most importantly, you will be a part of team that is passionate, driven and motivated by achieving much needed systemic and policy change to bridge the housing gap between Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people across NSW.

**What is required for you to be successful as a Policy Officer?**

This role will be working closely with Aboriginal communities and previous experience working with community and/or housing is highly desired.
- An understanding of the policy development and review cycle to co-design, implement, and coordinate comprehensive projects that deliver effective business unit outcomes and meet client service delivery needs
- An understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal housing policy environment and ability to be agile and flexible to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have strong stakeholder engagement and management skills
- Be agile and flexible to cope with the demand of a fast-paced working environment
- An open mind, self-driven, motivated, and intuitive
- Track record of delivering a range of project-related documents for key stakeholders as required, including status updates, reports, budgets, and discussion papers to manage the flow of information
- Provide high quality policy advice to drive reform to contribute to better outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Work collegiately with other teams and external stakeholders to deliver the sustainable outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- This is an Aboriginal Identified role_ _where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977)._

**Essential Requirements**
- Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs and attitudes and of the socio-economic position of Aboriginal people within Australian society, and of their impacts in relation to housing. A thorough understanding of the Aboriginal political and historical impacts upon policy developments in NSW and nationally in relation to Aboriginal land rights, and Aboriginal land use.
