**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead quality teaching and learning across the sub-school.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to lead the implementation of College programs and the School Strategic Plan in a manner aligned with the ELT purpose statement and trademark values.
- Lead and develop teams to design and implement evidence-based collaborative practice and high-quality educational programs.
- Lead the implementation of tiered interventions at the sub-school level to effectively address individual student learning, engagement and wellbeing.
- Strengthening community and systems engagement.
- Lead the development of a partnership approach with sub-school families and the broader community to support student learning.
- Participate and contribute to the development of network partnerships and professional learning.
- Manage and contribute to programs that support student learning across network/system schools.
- Strategic Resource Management
- Oversee the development of budgets and the allocation and expenditure of resources (human, financial, physical, IT).
- Lead the development of workplace culture that supports staff to flourish and excel in their work.
- Lead the achievement of student and College outcomes as defined in the Annual Implementation Plan.
- Use the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) and use the FISO cycle to evaluate and diagnose, set goals and outcomes, develop and plan and monitor and implement.

**Junior School Principal Responsibilities**

Melton Secondary College is led by the College Executive Team comprising the College Principal, Director of Curriculum, Director of Literacy, Director of Student Services and Operations and a Junior (7-9) and Senior (10-12) Principal.
