**Purpose of the role**:
You will be part of Canopius Australia’s Accident & Health team responsible for managing and growing a large book of Underwriting Agency binder facilities and open market business in the Australia Pacific region.

You will work independently to manage all aspects of an Accident & Health business in a fluid and constantly changing environment. There is local empowerment and autonomy from the global business unit.

You will have a direct link to colleagues in London and Singapore. You will gain diverse experience in portfolio management and by working alongside our claims, finance, data, risk and compliance teams to grow our Agency and open market business.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Confidently underwrite and manage the full lifecycle of Individual and Group Personal Accident, Corporate Travel, Voluntary Workers, and Journey products. Both as a referral point for our Agencies and for our open market book.
- Pre-renewal (obtain renewal list and review claims and premium receivable)
- Submissions (ensure the renewal submissions are logged correctly in the system, review the info pack and refer/discuss with Underwriters if needed before issue the quote)
- Binding (review the slip and wordings, check sanctions, contract certainty and/or wordsensa, sign and return contract, complete RIF automation, DMS all files to WNS)
- Peer Review meeting (meeting with London team and update Peer Review Completion Date in Subscribe)
- Manage the operations of our Agencies. This involves implementing underwriting policies and guidelines, bordereaux processing, and chairing regular meetings with Agencies to achieve company profitability, customer retention, and risk management.
- Provide regular reporting and analyse underwriting data to identify trends and areas for improvement to the team, and implement corrective pricing action in line with the business plan.
- Lead due diligence and onboarding of new Underwriting Agencies and renewal of existing Agencies, ensuring compliance with current regulatory regimes.
- Be responsible for your own learning and maintain your professional qualifications.
- Develop excellent working relationships with our risk and compliance, finance, and claims functions; our coverholders, and broker contacts.

**Skills and Experience**:

- High level of drive to learn and support others in a team environment is required
- Diplomatic approach to customer service
- Articulate orally and in written communication
- Show resourcefulness in solving problems
- Good work ethic and time management skills
- Excel is used heavily so a strong understanding of Excel and its functions are required
- Prior experience in any capacities within the insurance industry highly regarded
- Lloyd’s or company market experience (broking or underwriting) highly regarded
- High level of personal accountability, strong time management, and organisation skills
- Tier 1 or Cert IV in Financial Services highly regarded
- General insurance and regulatory knowledge in conjunction with the above highly regarded
