**About the role**
In this role you will coordinate, develop and promote access to and development of recreational opportunities consistent with the needs of the Glen Eira community. You will advocate for new and upgraded facilities, liaise with other government departments for funding, and seek and provide opportunities for improved sport and recreation within Glen Eira.
- Other responsibilities include:_
- Provide research assistance in the development of recreation strategies and policy development.
- Assist with conducting audits within Council’s Park and Reserves, which may include site visits, liaising with external consultants, benchmarking against other councils and preparing priority listings.
- Assist with the implementation of the Tennis Strategy, Open Space Strategy, Active Recreation Action Plan, Pavilion Redevelopment Strategy and other relevant strategies.
- Undertake Community Engagement for projects pertaining to recreation.
- Ensure Council’s website is regularly updated with relevant and current information pertaining to recreation facilities within Glen Eira.

**About you**
As the Recreation Development Officer you will have the ability to liaise, gain cooperation and build positive relationships with all levels of staff across the organisation as well as external stakeholders. You will have an understanding of current trends and emerging issues in the planning and implementation of recreation and open space activities.

The following is also required:

- Tertiary qualification in recreation management, or other relevant discipline, and/or previous experience in local government or the sport and recreation industry.
- Experience with the preparation of policies, strategies and/or research projects, ideally related to sport and recreation.
- Demonstrated ability or transferable skills to prepare funding submissions, requiring factual and feasibility evidence, and manage and administer requirements of funding agreements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as an active team member, and undertaking projects with a customer focus, including sound proficiency with Microsoft Office packages.
