Mental Health Support Worker

Traralgon, Australia Living Right Care Full time

We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Worker to support a Female NDIS participant in Traralgon Victoria. This role involves attending and engaging in appointments and providing comprehensive holistic support. You will be part of a supportive team and with your initiative and commitment, you will help nurture an environment that encourages the development of daily living, social and recreational skills that maximise independence and assist our client to achieve their personal goals and assist to keep their health stable.

**Responsibilities**:

- Attend booked appointments and fully engage with the participant
- Assist in setting up the participant's home
- Help with equine therapy, improving mental health, and overall wellbeing
- Support in writing a book
- Help manage finances including creating Excel spreadsheets
- Accompany the participant for shopping or café visits
- Assist in sourcing and setting up technology (e.g., phone/laptop) for reminders and family interaction

**Required Qualities**:

- Trustworthy and reliable
- Significant life experience
- Easy-going with a fun personality and an understanding of sarcasm
- Enjoys children, as the participant often cares for her grandchildren
- Problem solver with a practical approach
- Flexible, adaptable, and open-minded
- Enjoys engaging conversations on topics like gardening, family, DIY, and puzzles
- Able to handle occasional harsh/judgmental behaviour from the participant without taking it personally
- Comfortable with a chaotic environment and has an empathetic ear
- Acknowledges and interacts with the participant's family
- Provides alternative perspectives and has the participant's back

**Goals for the Participant**:

- Finish setting up her home
- Undertake equine therapy
- Improve mental health and overall wellbeing
- Write a book
- Receive financial counseling and assistance including help with Excel spreadsheets
- Occasionally go out shopping or to a café
- Explore and research various topics of interest

**Qualifications Required**
- NDIS Orientation Modules
- Police Check
- Completed Mental Health Cert IV or above
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Australian Driver Licence
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children's Check

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: From $40.26 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 6 per week
