**The Opportunity**

Cabinet Division delivers high-quality support to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and its Committees, and the Governor General. As this work is fast-paced and has a high degree of autonomy and visibility within PM&C and across Government, there are opportunities for growth and diversity of experience within the team.

As the APS6 in the Legal Information Integrity section, you will work within a team responsible for advising on the protection of Cabinet information in a variety of contexts, including before royal commissions, courts and tribunals and in response to freedom of information requests. You will engage with legal teams across the Commonwealth to support the protection of Cabinet information. This work can be fast-paced, complex and challenging, and often raises whole of government issues. You would also play an important role in assessing access requests to Cabinet documents of former governments.

We are looking for an APS6 officer with a sound understanding of litigation, administrative decision making or freedom of information legislative frameworks, or those with the potential to quickly develop these skills. An understanding of the operation of public interest immunity claims would be highly regarded. You will have the opportunity to work with highly skilled and experienced colleagues and leaders in a supportive and collaborative work environment.

The skills required for this role include strong analytical and sound decision-making, organisation, time management and agility. This role represents a unique opportunity to work with Cabinet information and gain a solid understanding of Government decision-making. This role offers a unique opportunity if you are wishing to enhance your knowledge and understanding of whole-of-government processes including freedom of information and the protection of Cabinet information.

The role requires an effective interpersonal style, resilience and good judgment, as well as an ability to work appropriately with sensitive and privileged information. You will have excellent written and verbal communication, good analytical and legal reasoning skills, stakeholder engagement skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain the necessary effective professional relationships.

A minimum NV1 security clearance will also be required. Legal qualifications or experience would be well regarded.
