**About the team**
The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery (LWAG) is a university art gallery of international standing that supports the teaching, research and engagement activities of the University of Western Australia.

We do this through our exhibitions, our public education program run in tandem with exhibitions and the maintenance and display of the University of Western Australia Art Collection and the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art.

The LWAG team is responsible for the custodianship and management of evolving, nationally significant art collections. The team delivers an annual program of intellectually rigorous and engaging exhibitions that contribute to the local and national arts landscapes. Exhibitions run in conjunction with a program of impactful and dynamic engagement and events, targeted to the various communities served by the gallery.

LWAG is a community facing facility, incorporating a number of galleries; a retail space; engagement spaces; and offices and art stores. The building is also available to the university community and external groups to hire for functions and events.

**About the opportunity**
As the appointee, you will play a leading support role in the administration of LWAG’s exhibitions, from the early development and planning of projects to their implementation and evaluation. The Assistant Curator will also support the management and care for the University’s Art Collection, working closely with the Curatorial team and the Registrar of the University Art Collection to ensure accuracy and depth of collection records and information.

**About you**
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Art History, Art Curatorial/Museum Studies, or directly relevant experience and training are encouraged.
- Demonstrated experience working on multi-disciplinary programs and commissions with diverse groups of cultural producers and practitioners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of historical, modern and contemporary visual art practice.
- Experience working within a public gallery or art museum, with demonstrated knowledge of the professional practices related to art collections or exhibition production.
- Highly developed research, written and oral communication skills.
- Highly developed organisational and administrative skills including ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and monitor priorities, resources and budgets.
- Ability to work productively as part of a small team and liaise with a wide range of internal and external contacts.
- Experience handling, and the physical ability to safely handle, works of art according to professional standards and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Well-developed computer literacy skills relevant to an art museum
