**About the area**
The E de C. Clarke Earth Science Museum is the focal point for UWA’s School of Earth Sciences and has superb displays and activities that promote earth science. The Museum is looking to expand the digital and interactive elements to further promote earth sciences to the wider community.

**About the opportunity**
Under limited supervision, you will join the Technical Services team and take direct responsibility for running the E. de C. Clarke Earth Science Museum. This includes curation of a wide range of materials held by the school, and leading activities in the Museum relative to outreach programs. These activities include specimen registration, collection management, and curation of displays and digital content. In addition, you will manage a team of volunteers including the Friends of the EdCC Museum, and Work-Integrated-Learning students to assist with collection management and public engagement.

You will ensure curated materials are accessible for loan or viewing by staff and students to support research activities and external users. You will be required to manage the Geology and Geography research thesis libraries, and you get involved in promoting earth sciences to the wider public, through school engagements, collaboration with local interest groups and generating broader digital content.

This is a real opportunity to collaborate with likeminded staff and students from across the School of Earth Sciences. You will also collaborate with curatorial and collection management staff from the Berndt Museum, Laurence Wilson Art Gallery, and other UWA collections regarding best practice methods in museology.

**About you**
To succeed in this role, you will need to be a passionate science communicator. This position is suited to a proactive, energetic individual with the ability to engage with people of all ages from school children to industry partners. You will possess relevant experience with sound collections and curation skills. You will have experience in developing creative and/or innovative activities and/or displays. You will possess technical expertise in one or more branches of geoscience and in data and collection management. You should be comfortable engaging with class groups and volunteers. You should have excellent computing skills, and a sound knowledge of digital media content management. A level of physical fitness, and recognition of health and safety best practice is also required.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in Earth Science and/or Museum Studies or demonstrated equivalent competency
- Relevant museum curation experience in setting up displays, and skills that demonstrate capacity to transform the Museum to include digital technologies into the future
- Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with a wide range of colleagues and students, and present technical and scientific concepts to members of the public including school-age children
- Sound practical knowledge of rocks, minerals, fossils, and Earth processes
- Skills in obtaining and utilising information from a variety of data sources and managing and maintaining relational databases (EMu experience preferred, but not essential)
