**About the Role**
The Policy Officer is responsible for undertaking research and analysis to provide strategic advice on transport system policy and reform options that will improve social, environmental, and economic outcomes for transport system users.
The role will focus on advising on climate action policy issues across the transport and planning portfolio, including leading the monitoring and preparation of reports on the Department’s performance against approved climate change adaptation and mitigation actions.
Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, the role will support coordination across the Department to develop initiatives, processes and systems that will position the Department to meet or exceed compliance with its climate action adaptation and mitigation obligations.

**Position Outcomes / Accountabilities**
- Provide policy and strategic advice through producing written and verbal briefings and deliverables.
- Use data-driven insights to make recommendations on the department’s performance in implementing approved climate action adaptation and mitigation measures.
- Establish effective working relationships with stakeholders to coordinate transport policy and climate action reporting.
- Support project management activities by creating plans, identifying risks, and considering governance requirements.
- In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities
To be successful in this role, you will develop policies informed by data, evidence, and project objectives, ensuring proposed solutions are well-articulated and supported. You will have data literacy, allowing you to analyse data and create insights that support informed decision-making. Critical thinking and problem-solving will be key, as you will evaluate information and stakeholder needs objectively before recommending actions. You will be skilled in delivering projects on time and within scope, while also communicating effectively across various media to engage stakeholders and manage their expectations.
On a personal level, you will be collaborative, building trust and rapport with others by demonstrating empathy and setting shared goals. Flexibility and adaptability are key attributes, as you will adjust your approach to meet changing priorities, embrace new skills and ways of working, and remain responsive and composed in the face of evolving demands.
