Aeu: Policy and Research Officer

The AEU Federal Policy and Research Officer will be a member of the AEU Federal Office team, with responsibility for supporting the advancement of the objectives and policies of the AEU generally, this work will include a focus on TAFE and vocational education. The position will also support the work of the AEU leadership team and the National Campaign Director on the AEU’s ongoing Rebuild with TAFE campaign.

**Duties**
The successful applicant’s duties will include:

- Undertaking policy development, analysis and research and the subsequent preparation of briefing papers, responses and submissions on AEU priorities as required
- Providing advice and support for the implementation of AEU campaigns with a focus on the AEU TAFE campaign
- Support for the work of the federal office holders in the AEU General and TAFE Divisions
- Working collaboratively with all federal office staff including office holders, professional officers and administrative support staff
- Liaise with National TAFE Council Executive
- Report to AEU Federal decision-making bodies and forums as required
- Develop and maintain relationships with allies and key organisations at a national and state level with a focus on the work of the TAFE Division of the AEU
- Other duties as required by the AEU Federal Secretary and their delegates.

**What the AEU Policy and Research Officer needs**

- Detailed knowledge and experience of public education with a focus on TAFE and vocational education.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, public education and unionism.
- An understanding of AEU national campaigns, and particularly the Rebuild with TAFE campaign.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the major policy issues and political environment affecting public education with a focus on TAFE as the public provider of vocational education.
- A demonstrated capacity to engage in high level research and policy development including the ability to identify and analyse issues, propose strategic solutions and prepare reports and submissions.
- High level written and verbal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team, or independently as appropriate.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications are highly desirable
