**About the Role**
- **One Full Time Ongoing role**
- **One Full Time Fixed Term role until 30 June 2027**
The Policy Officer will collaborate within a high-performing team to help achieve critical government objectives aimed at reforming the building system and ensuring safe, high-quality buildings for Victorians. Operating in a dynamic environment, the role will support multiple projects focused on enhancing building outcomes across industry practitioners and consumers. Responsibilities include contributing to policy development, assisting in drafting regulatory changes, preparing briefings for Ministers and executives and engaging extensively with government industry and consumer stakeholders to achieve effective building policy and regulatory results.

**Position Outcomes / Accountabilities**
- Contribute, as part of a team, to support the development, review and evaluation of complex and innovative policy options, including projects that deliver the government’s priorities.
- Develop policy options that are factual, accurate and suitable for their audience, and contribute to the development of policy initiatives that deliver the government’s priorities for the building and plumbing industries and the architectural profession, in Victoria.
- Ensure policy and regulatory advice is delivered in a timely manner and is effective in achieving the required outcome.
- Maintain effective relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues, the Department’s executives and internal and external stakeholders to support government and business unit priorities.
- Prepare well-informed factual, accurate and timely responses to Ministerial briefings and correspondence.
- Maintain an awareness of international and national building policy issues and best practice.
- Work flexibly and collaboratively across the business to deliver business unit, group and DTP priorities and initiatives as required.
- Practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
- In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.

**Qualifications and Experience**
**Desirable**
- A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, economics or a related discipline is highly desirable.
- Experience in the development and amendment of legislation and/or regulations in a State or Commonwealth public service setting is highly desirable.
