**About the opportunity**:
We are looking for junior and senior technical accounting specialists to join our Financial Reporting Advisory team.

The vacancies are ongoing and available across all VPS levels.

Junior technical specialist (minimum 2 years’ experience): Salary range $83,333 to $116,550 (plus super + Leave Loading and Mobility allowance)

Senior technical specialist (minimum 5 years’ experience): Salary negotiable dependent on level of experience.

The Financial Reporting Advisory (FRA) team comprises of accounting standard specialists who help the financial audit engagement teams navigate through the requirements of accounting standards and broader financial reporting challenges facing their clients.

The financial audit engagement teams conduct over 560 financial audits annually across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health, education, justice, local government, and financial corporations. By working in the FRA team, you will be exposed to various activities and some of the major projects delivered by the Victorian Government across such a broad range of portfolio and their related financial reporting implications.

The role will be ideal for individuals who enjoy advising teams on complex accounting matters and coaching them on the requirements of accounting standards and the broader financial reporting framework.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Typical responsibilities for technical specialists include:
- **Technical advisory**:

- Providing commercially grounded and technically sound accounting advice to engagement teams on accounting and financial reporting issues.
- Participating and making meaningful contribution to technical discussions with various stakeholders.
- Keeping abreast of latest developments, undertake impact assessment and keeping the stakeholders informed.
- Leading and providing technical inputs to various financial reporting projects (such as sustainability reporting, simplification of financial statements etc.) and other business improvement projects, to address challenges faced by stakeholders, influencing change.
- **Training**: Designing, developing and delivering training at internal and external forums including the development/overseeing the development of various contemporary learning tools.
- **Thought leadership**: Writing thought leadership articles on topical issues.
- **Stakeholder engagement**: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through proactive engagement.
- **People Management**
- Leading and managing team members including delegation and monitoring of their work. This includes, actively providing clear direction, coaching and feedback to them in a timely manner.
- Commitment to continuous professional development of self and the team members by promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing to enhance the overall team’s capability.

**Skills and experience**:

- **Knowledge and experience**:You have excellent knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and a high-level grasp of broader financial reporting framework. You have experience in providing authoritative advice to stakeholders on complex accounting and financial reporting issues.
- **Qualifications**:You have a full professional membership with CAANZ/CPA Australia or equivalent and relevant tertiary qualifications
- **Communication**:You have excellent written and verbal communication skills which includes providing clear and accurate explanations and conveying technical concepts in an easily understandable manner to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- **People and teamwork**:You have experience in managing teams fostering a sense of common purpose. You are driven, accountable, lead by example, modelling collegiate, resilient and flexible work behaviours. You promote a culture of inquiry by sharing learning and knowledge.
- **Strategic leadership**:You identify, develop and implement opportunities for improvement in internal and external stakeholder relationships. You are able to identify emerging threats and opportunities to better target the department’s activity.
