Our client, located in
**Mayfield**, is a diversified business operating in the
**steel manufacturing, distribution and recycling industries.**

As part of their growth and the need for a new facility to be built, they now require a
**Design Manager** to join the team.

The overall project will be 3 years minimum in duration. Your contract will be
**6-9 months** with a possible view to extension depending on progress.

**Primary duties of the role will include;**
- To plan, co-ordinate and manage the design, assist with procurement, support construction and commissioning through detailing, design change requests & RFIs for the Mesh Project, including taking a leadership role in the preparation of the designs.
- Ensure orderly document control across all aspects of the project
- To achieve or better the approved budgeted project design cost
- Maintain a strong HSE focus for the entire duration of the project, with responsibility for total compliance with Engineering policies and procedures.
- Sustain customer relationships through professional communications and project management satisfying all required levels of customer service and support.
- Ensure that Engineering change management practices are strictly implemented to manage scope and other project changes
- Undertake detailed design reviews in accordance with the schedule. Manage & close out all issues in subsequent designs
- Implement Engineering quality management procedures and systems for each design stage
- Focus the project team on achievement of the design milestones and other key project objectives
- Lead project risk management activities including identification, assessment, control/reduction/ treatment and transfer of residual risk to operations through the design process
- Actively participate in the construction process by managing accurate design & responses to RFIs

**To be successful we ideally require;**
- Mechanical or Civil Bachelor of Engineering preferably from an Australian Institution
- Proven experience delivering to milestones (Deliverables)
- Experience in co-ordinating various design disciplines including civil/structural, mechanical services, electrical & building services to Heavy industry settings
- Proficient in MS office & PS project
- Experience managing Design teams & tracking hours against budgets
- Experience in cost management and reporting
- Proficiency in Autocad - highly regarded
- Experience managing both inhouse & external design consultants of various disciplines with a team of up to 10 staff
- Experience with BCA & Fire systems to upgrade existing buildings/ structures
- Experience as a Design Manager for projects in excess of $10M
