**Role**:
Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
**Responsibilities**:
Following a detailed selection process, Mount Ridley P-12 College has been selected as one of three Victorian Beacon Schools for Punjabi and/or Hindi. As a Beacon School, we will offer high quality learning in **Punjabi** to background and non-background speakers while serving as system leaders in the Punjabi language by sharing and harnessing best practice and resources that promote improvement in students¿ language competencies.
The successful applicant will lead the implementation of the Punjabi Language Program through a staged approach across Years 7
- 12, with the potential to include Prep to Year 6 at a later stage. In 2025, Punjabi will be introduced at:
- Year 7 as part of a language immersion program. Students undertaking this program will experience the full breadth of the curriculum offered at the College, while combining teaching content from Humanities (initially) with the explicit teaching on the Punjabi language.
**DIRECTOR OF PUNJABI AND LANGUAGE IMMERSION**
- Lead the implementation of the College¿s Punjabi and Language Immersion Program.
- Working collaboratively with the Principal Class team, other Directors and Learning Specialists in leading and supporting the development and documentation of innovative teaching and learning, reporting and assessment practices relating to Punjabi and Language Immersion.
- Leading effective teaching practices and curriculum programs in the areas of Punjabi and Language Immersion - including managing professional learning, development programs and activities that are aimed at enhancing teacher capacity.
- Ensuring the effective purchasing and management of Punjabi teaching and learning resources and equipment.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
