**Role**:
**Role of a Hindi Beacon School language assistant**

***Student and teacher support**
- Work with the Hindi Beacon School Leader to support the development of the vision for the Hindi Beacon School at Wyndham Central College. This includes but is not limited to the development of a Hindi Language centre, the development (and ordering) of curriculum resources to promote the teaching of the Hindi language and all aspects of the Indian culture and support the promotion of cultural events throughout the calendar year in the school community.
- Work with individual or small groups of students undertaking language learning activities.
- Provide feedback to students on correct language usage.
- Model correct language usage (e.g. pronunciation and idiom).
- Provide targeted support to small groups or individuals within the classroom.
- Contribute to professional development sessions with Hindi language teachers.
- Participate in activities that promote the Hindi language and culture.
- Provide native speaker expertise to teachers on use of the language.
- Provide advice to teachers on current cultural conventions.

**School curriculum support**:

- Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development for the reading, writing, speaking and listening component of the language.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital language resources (e.g. ARC, class wiki) for language studies.
- Conduct background research for the preparation of language teaching and learning materials in particular for oral components.
- Provide support for school-based language program initiatives (e.g. sister school partnerships, school open night, language day Beacon school events and activities)
- Contribute to the development of language teaching and learning materials that require expert knowledge of the target language (e.g. multimedia recording of native-speaker voice).

**Other support that a language assistant may provide**:

- Participate in initiatives or projects that promote the language across the school and inter school. (e.g. language speaking contest, student immersion camp, student forums, cultural events)
- Assist in arranging excursions and camps.
- Assist with the delivery of language and cultural activities either face-to-face or online.
- Assist with the development of resources to support the teaching of the language (e.g. recording audio content).
- Participate in activities that promote language learning and intercultural understanding in the broader Wyndham Central College community (e.g. activities organised by the Languages Unit, regional showcase events, forums and festivals).
- Any other item as directed by Principal (or delegate).
