**Role**:

- Work with individual or small groups of students undertaking language learning activities
- Provide feedback to students on correct language usage
- Model correct language usage (e.g. pronunciation and idiom)
- Team-teach or provide targeted support to small groups or individuals
- Assist the delivery of face-to-face or online cultural activities
- Contribute to professional development sessions for language teachers
- Participate in activities that promote the target language (e.g. language day)
- Provide native-like speaker expertise to teachers on use of the language
- Provide advice to teachers on current cultural conventions (e.g. pop culture)
- Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital language resources
- Provide support for school-based language program initiatives (e.g. sister school partnerships, languages day)
- Contribute to the development of language teaching and learning materials that require expert knowledge of the target language, including background research

**Additional support**:

- Participate in initiatives or projects that promote the target language across the school cluster, region or state (e.g. via initiatives such as language speaking contests, student immersion camps, student forums), where possible
- Assist with the delivery of language and cultural activities either face-to-face or virtually
- Assist with the development of resources to support the teaching of the language (e.g. recording audio content)
- Assist with facilitating language or cultural professional learning workshops for teachers
- Present at regional and/or language teacher association conferences
- Participate in activities that promote language learning and intercultural understanding in the broader community (e.g. activities organised by the department, regional showcase events and forums)
- Observe the Child Safe Standards and comply with mandatory reporting obligations (under the _Children, Youth and Families Act 2005_)

**Responsibilities**:
The language assistant coordinator will:

- liaise with their language assistant to provide them with information about the school and its community
- ensure that their language assistant is aware of the base school¿s conflict management approach
- liaise between the school, language assistant and department for all relevant matters, including monitoring the welfare of their language assistant and responding to any relevant issues in a timely manner
- coordinate the day-to-day work activities of their language assistant, including the establishment of a manageable timetable across the school cluster in consultation with their language assistant
- ensure that lesson planning and preparation with their language assistant occurs on a weekly basis
- facilitate opportunities for their language assistant to integrate into the broader school community (such as invitations to functions and excursions outside of scheduled language lessons, where possible)
- liaise with teachers at other schools to ensure their language assistant is receiving the appropriate level of support to perform their role, and
- report to the department any changes to a language assistant¿s circumstances.
