Assistant Principal Special Education

**Position Information**:
Mary Brooksbank School is a School for Specific Purposes in the Camden Network of Schools and within the Regional South School Performance Directorate. The school is currently a leader in quality education for students with a primary diagnosis of moderate or severe intellectual disability. Mary Brooksbank School has 115 enrolments (9% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 58% from a non-English speaking background) ranging in age from 4 to 18 years (K-12) across 20 classes.
The school values strong relationships with families, other agencies, and the community, and is strongly focused on quality teaching, holistic learning, and community partnerships.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience in successfully leading staff working in special education to deliver high-quality individualised supports, learning plans, and strategies that meet students’ needs.
2. Evidence of a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leader with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with students, families, wider community and the team around students.
4. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse data to lead and implement evidence-based best practice that results in improved outcomes in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
