The key purpose of this role is to realise student excellence through exceptional leadership and management of the St Michael’s Science Faculty which incorporates the Victorian General Science, Biology. Chemistry, Physics and Psychology curriculum. This includes oversight of an engaging and contemporary Science program from years 7 to 12, implemented by a team of staff with expert knowledge of content and innovative pedagogical practices.
Within the context of a K-12 School, the Head of Science will also play an important advisory role in relation to Science at K-6. They will ensure St Michael’s is renowned as a centre of excellence in science, with high academic outcomes, and that student learning is connected to the world through strategic partnerships with key cultural, business and community organisations. The Head of Science will build on our exceptional Science spaces through the further development of the STEAM Precinct in the School’s Master Plan.
The successful applicant must:
- possess strong leadership, staff management and mentoring skills.
- be a qualified teacher and be able to demonstrate a suitable tertiary qualification in teaching and their methods.
- have demonstrated skill and interest in curriculum and assessment development in Science.
- have a positive outlook, exceptional people skills and high emotional intelligence with demonstrated ability to build authentic, collaborative and productive relationships.
- be willing to be involved in all aspects of the School’s program.
- have high level communication skills.
- be able to work independently but also as part of a dynamic, creative and collaborative team.
- hold a current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
- hold an Anaphylaxis Certificate or be willing to obtain this prior to commencement.
- have a current National Police Check or be willing to obtain one prior to commencement.
