The Institute Manager is the lead administrator in the NIKERI Institute and provides professional business and administrative management of the Institute, ensuring members of the Institute can operate in an efficient and effective manner. The Institute Manager is accountable for the direct management of professional staff delivering student services, marketing, student recruitment and events management, residential services, research administration, human resources and executive support to the Director. The Institute Manager is responsible for ensuring finance, information technology and risk compliance services are delivered by the Faculty to the Institute in a timely and effective manner and in that regard provides operational direction to the Finance, IT and Resources staff located in NIKERI. The Institute Manager draws from their strong leadership and administrative knowledge and experience in First Nations settings to provides high-level support and advice to the Director in initiation, development and implementation of strategy, policy, governance and planning in order for the Institute to achieve its strategic targets and operations. In the performance of these duties, the Institute Manager is required to manage within a complex organisational structure and exercise initiative, judgement and discretion at all times.

The NIKERI Institute operates a centralised administrative service to support the teaching, learning, research and commercial functions undertaken by the Institute and Kitjarra student residence. The Institute provides support to all First Nations students including those enrolled in Community Based Learning courses, which involve short intensives run from the Institute coupled with distance support for students when back in community. The Institute is connected to the Faculty of Arts and Education which comprises three Schools, a number of Strategic Research Centres and two Institutes.

The role oversees the effective implementation of Institute administrative structures ensuring the Institute provides adequate support for First Nations students enrolled on campus and in community-based study mode. The role is also key in ensuring the Institute meets its duty-of-care obligations to First Nations students whilst on intensive study residential blocks and to meet the academic, cultural and social needs of students which in turn facilitates student retention, completion and load targets. This position will work with the Institute and Faculty finance teams in order to ensure budgetary requirements are met

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Lead with values, ethics and emotional intelligence to grow team resilience, inclusion and performance and set clear standards of expected behaviour and celebrate and reward outstanding performance
- Support and guide others in managing workplace stress, role model optimism in times of change and strive for balance in behaviour in terms of inclusivity, sustainability and excellence
- Actively analyse Institute activities to ensure sustainability. This includes reviewing academic workload allocations in line with overall financial management of the school, staff management plan and space,
- Analyse problems, weigh up a range of options to identify accessible and inclusive solutions and translate complex issues into clear and understandable goals and targets for Deakin
- Lead the coordination, support and advice in relation to Institute administrative and operational matters to ensure the organisation and control of the Institute’s functions and resources
- Conceptualise local plans in alignment with University strategies and monitor progress and risks, adapt personal and team priorities and plans as required
- Ensure university governance, including the development of work instructions, procedures and guidelines to enable and support the delivery of operations
- Establish systems and procedures to guide work and track progress and strive for excellence and continually evaluate progress and effectively overcome barriers to achieve outcomes
- Actively promote and drive inclusive change using broad influencing skills to gain support and overcome barriers and gain stakeholder support and generate enthusiasm about change
- Act as a coach and work with team members to facilitate growth and development by giving balanced, constructive feedback considering individual capabilit
