The Design and Construction team is responsible for the delivery of new buildings and large-scale refurbishments which are planned, designed and constructed to meet Deakin’s long-term infrastructure needs.
The Project Officer role supports projects and ensures they respond to the project brief and comply with University Design Standards for Facilities, Campus Planning Guidelines, Building Regulations and all relevant Codes. Supervises external consultants and contractors to ensure effective completion of allocated projects under the direction of the Director, Design and Construction or other Senior Infrastructure and Property team members. Ensures resources for allocated projects are kept within agreed budgets and timeframes. Liaises with appropriate site personnel, project stakeholders and other Infrastructure and Property team members to ensure projects are compliant. Supports large-scale projects, including project reporting, coordinating cost estimates, obtaining quotes, conducting reviews and awards tenders, will also take a lead role on smaller projects and reports on their progress and provide advice and information to the relevant audiences.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Develop and provide the necessary documentation and reporting to support the management and coordination of the program and/or project
- Prepare and monitor project schedules, resources, budgets, cost estimates and provide progress and status reports and manage changes as they arise
- Coordinate internal resources and third parties and/or vendors to execute projects
- Measure and review project performance
- Establish and demonstrate a high level of learning, energy and commitment and maintain personal integrity and make decisions consistent with University values
- Plan and prioritises work and critical activities appropriately and recognises barriers to achieving outcomes, finds effective ways to deal with them and evaluates progress
- Plan and oversee all aspects of the end-to-end project to deliver sustainable outcomes, value within constraints of time, cost and quality
- Seek feedback from clients regarding their satisfaction and perspective with products or services received, respond to feedback with openness and transparency and seek to identify ways to better service the stakeholder
- Develop and implement practical, accessible solutions based on stakeholder needs
- Communicate with confidence using examples and the most appropriate influencing technique for a given situation to increase understanding and support

**Relationships**:

- Internal relationships: Infrastructure and Property, Campus Operations, University stakeholders, Digital Services, Finance and legal
- External relationships: Contractors and Consultants

**To be successful, you’ll have**:

- A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. (Building, architecture or project management)
- Experience in the commercial / institutional construction industry
- Experience coordinating external contractors and consultants to achieve objectives
- Experience in organising the design and construction of varied works
- Experience in recognising and critically analysing client / user requirements
- Knowledge of the building industry including occupational health and safety guidelines in respect of construction
- Ability to manage project specific finances and work within a budget
