**THE ROLE**:
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and self-motivated senior leader for the Deputy Head of the Simplified Trade System (STS) Implementation Taskforce (Taskforce) role. This role reports directly to the Head of the Taskforce. The Deputy Head leads three SES Band 1s in supporting the Head of the Taskforce to provide strategic direction, and build staff capability and capacity, whilst fostering a positive working culture.

We are looking for a strong and resilient leader who will take responsibility and accountability for whole-of-government outcomes in a fast paced, challenging and often ambiguous environment. You will have an excellent record of working collaboratively with other senior leaders across government and business, including at CEO level, to achieve these outcomes. You will have sound judgement and willing to engage with, and manage, risk, including at the whole-of-government level.

You will have a sound knowledge of the role of the Taskforce. More broadly, you will have a proven ability to be able to leverage the Government’s trade, digital and broader economic agendas to support the STS vision and mission.

**THE TASKFORCE**:
Australia’s economic prosperity relies on efficient and effective cross-border trade. The Simplified Trade System (STS) Implementation Taskforce (the STS Taskforce) is an independent entity, reporting directly to the Minister for Trade. The STS Taskforce is leading the Government’s cross-border trade - or STS - reform agenda. STS reforms are making trade easier and cheaper for Australian businesses and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of government administration.

The whole-of-government STS Taskforce is looking for talented individuals committed to designing and delivering results - whether you are motivated by solving policy problems, shaping digital service delivery, working with businesses, or providing exceptional governance and corporate functions.
The Taskforce is an independent entity located within the Trade portfolio, reporting directly to the Minister for Trade and Tourism. While an independent entity, the Taskforce is supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission with the corporate support, systems and tools enabling the Taskforce to focus on simplifying trade.

The Taskforce is responsible for leading, coordinating and aligning whole-of-government reforms to make cross-border trade easier and less costly for Australian business. This will increase Australia’s economic prosperity and international competitiveness, support trade diversification, create jobs and improve our cost of living.

The STS Taskforce is working with business and across all levels of government to deliver the most significant whole-of-government cross-border trade reforms in more than a decade. This includes working to make trade rules simpler and easier for businesses to comply with, digitising cross-border trade processes to be more efficient, enabled by modern ICT systems with improved data sharing, while strengthening border and biosecurity controls.

The work of the STS Taskforce supports the Government’s broader trade and digital agendas, including Trade2040. Our work will deliver regulatory, process and ICT systems reforms which will deliver value to both business and Government over the short, medium, and longer terms.

The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) provides the STS Taskforce with corporate support, systems, and tools.
