**About the role**

This position is responsible for managing the Information & Data Governance landscape in developing, implementing and overseeing the information and data governance strategy and framework within Council.

You will
- Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive information and data governance framework, policies, and procedures to ensure the organisation's information and data assets are managed effectively.
- Lead and manage a team of professionals responsible for data management, information governance, and data quality assurance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and comply with data governance standards, data dictionaries/metadata repository, and data ownership responsibilities.
- Design and oversee processes for data classification, access controls, and data retention in compliance with relevant regulations, standards and oversee Audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for data quality, accuracy, and integrity, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Establish data governance education and training programs to promote a culture of data awareness and responsible data handling.
- Work closely with ICT teams to ensure data security and privacy measures are implemented, including data encryption and access controls.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure data management practices align with relevant laws and regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to information and data governance such as AI governance.

**About the person**
- Bachelor's degree in Information or Data Governance or a related field.
- Proven experience in a senior level role overseeing a team of professionals.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks and best practices.
- Leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
