**POSITION OVERVIEW**:

- The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatient surgical services to the ACT and surrounding region. The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit and Extended Day Surgery Unit, specialist surgical wards, outpatient services, ACT Trauma Service, Intensive Care Unit, Capital Retrieval Service and the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit. These Units are supported by administration support officers.
- The successful applicant will have specialist experience in Orthopaedic surgery or a surgical subspecialty, and high-level skills relevant to both inpatient and outpatient services. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the mandatory administrative, governance and training requirements of medical officers within the Division.

**DUTIES**:
Under limited direction of the Supervisor of Training and the Unit Director, you will:

- Contribute to the clinical oversight of multi-disciplinary teams to support efficient clinical management of patients of Canberra Health Services within a multidisciplinary clinical team. The clinical management includes outpatient clinics, operating lists, emergency department consults and phone advice to referring GPs and regional hospitals.
- Participate in the supervision, training, and professional development of junior medical staff,
in accordance with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) curriculum, with patient-centred care being the outcome.
- Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Maintain adequate and legible medical record and ensure that the clinical team completes clinical documentation, including discharge summaries and advice, in a timely manner.
- Liaise and collaborate with medical practitioner, consumers, carers, voluntary and government and non-government agencies concerned with patients care.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

**Position Requirements / Qualifications**

Mandatory
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.
- Have a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience as an orthopaedic registrar in comparable department to the Orthopaedic Department at Canberra Health Services.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
