**Description**:
The goal of the Youth Frontiers program is that young women avoid contact with the justice system. With a focus on early intervention, the program delivers quality mentoring to young women in contact with the youth justice and child protection systems, to increase young people’s wellbeing and connection to community. Youth Frontiers is a youth mentoring program for young women aged 10-17 years in contact with the criminal justice and child protection systems. It aims to engage young people’s strengths by building skills and experience through mentoring support. The goal of the Youth Frontiers program is that young women avoid contact with the justice system. With a focus on early intervention, the program delivers quality mentoring to young women in contact with the youth justice and child protection systems, to increase young people’s wellbeing and connection to community.

Key Principles that will guide the Youth Frontiers program are:
Safety, protection, privacy and wellbeing of young people are paramount.
A youth-centred and youth development approach.
Respectful and culturally appropriate engagement.
Collaboration and inclusive engagement with stakeholders.
Development and delivery of the YF program in accordance with best practice principles.

The Youth Frontiers (YF) Program Coordinator will deliver the program’s objectives, train and manage mentors and ensure compliance with DCJ contractual requirements as detailed in the YF program specifications. The (YF) Program Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and screening suitable mentors and mentees into the program and actively promoting the program. The position will function under the supervision of the YF Program Manager.

**Responsibilities Include**:

- Provide training and support to the Youth Frontier mentors
- The coordinator will assist the Manager in all aspects of engagement (recruitment/referral/retention).

Implement structured mentoring activities in relation to personal and life skills development.
- Support the mentors to connect with social networks and engage with community.
- Complete reporting through Data Exchange (DEX).
- Provide support for young people to establish, strengthen or expand their educational and employment related networks and opportunities.
- Meet target numbers of mentee/mentor recruitment as per contract agreement.

At the direction of the Manager establish partnerships in service delivery amongst agencies in the area including specific mainstream services (i.e. health, Centrelink, education, family support, youth services, etc.), "First to know" agencies (i.e. the police, schools, hospitals/key health services, govt. department offices) and specific agencies who are key to the issue of youth homelessness in this area (i.e. Juvenile Justice, OOHC service, Aboriginal and CALD support agencies).

Work with other agencies that work with young people in the area to ensure appropriate services are provided in a coordinated way.

Assist the manager in promoting the service to the community and educate the community about at-risk young people.

Be involved in action which positively influences the policies and social factors that affect at risk young People.

Maintain and nurture relationships with "first-to-know" agencies.
- Maintain collaborative co-case management partnerships with appropriate SHS and mainstream youth services to achieve quality outcomes for young people and their families.

Ensure data integrity through ongoing training in Community Data Solutions (CDS) and Data Exchange (DEX).

**Selection Criteria**:
Formal qualifications and/or experience in the community sector.

Demonstrated experience in working within a mentoring program or similar for disadvantaged youth.

Experience or understanding of early intervention and prevention models.

Demonstrated experience in working with complex needs clients.

Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues with capacity to identify levels of risk requiring statutory child protection intervention.

Possess a high level of cultural competency and demonstrated excellence in working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people, families and organisations and planning, delivering and evaluating services in a culturally sensitive manner.

Well-developed interpersonal, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
