**Where you’ll be working**
The System Monitoring & Insights (SMI) team support units/branches across the Ministry of Health to make evidence-based decisions regarding planning, innovation and policy. The team work collaboratively with policy owners and system managers to plan, design and execute regular reporting and analysis that informs planning, monitoring and evaluation of priority programs and operations across NSW Health.

The SMI team have built a sophisticated health service utilisation modelling tool (a Dynamic Simulation Model, or DSM), which can be used to predict what might happen to a complex system under different ‘what if’ scenarios. This modelling relies on combining linked and unlinked data assets to provide a comprehensive and longitudinal view of the patient journey. This is a fundamental enabler to projecting health service utilisation and patient outcomes across the Australian Health system.

**About the Role**

This position will ensure that the DSM, and the modelling and analytics that support it, are relevant, reproducible, and reflect modern techniques. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for investigative analytics work, structured statistical model building and the associated data engineering pipeline and platform. There will be extensive learning and development opportunities for this position.

**Selection Criteria**
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and / or relevant experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, Actuarial, Mathematics, and Statistics.
- Sound knowledge of health related data collections and a good understanding of the NSW and Australian Health Systems.
- Experience in conducting and interpreting statistical analyses of population-based health administrative or other health related data, including linked datasets, using a range of analytic tools and methodologies, in order to describe and compare the performance of health systems.
- Strong communications skills, including the ability to liaise with a diverse group of co-workers and others to interpret/deliver the information received or questions asked in a timely and effective manner.
- The ability to take initiative, to work independently and ask clarifying questions.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to create presentations, graphs, reports and diagrammatic representations of concepts for a variety of work situations.
