Reporting to Head of Junior School

Role Description
The Walford Junior School includes an ELC for 3- and 4- year-old girls and boys, and a R-5 Junior School for girls.

The Junior School Teacher’s main responsibility is to provide quality learning and teaching for the students in their
class, whilst fostering a classroom atmosphere of warmth, welcome and high expectation. The Junior School
Teacher enables each Walford Junior School girl in their care to achieve her potential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Support the Anglican ethos of the School.
- Live the School values of Courage, Commitment, Community and Growth.
- Comply with School policies and procedures and the Walford Staff Code of Behaviour.
- Embody the School’s commitment to child safety and actively contribute to creating and maintaining a child
- safe environment.- Ensure knowledge and implementation of School policies and procedures.
- Be an active member of relevant professional organisations and engage in relevant professional learning.
- Participate in the School’s cocurricular program.

Learning and Teaching
- Create and maintain a safe, positive and organised learning environment that fosters the development of

resilience and independence for students.
- Prepares and delivers high quality teaching programs, adhering to the requirements of the Australian

Curriculum and International Baccalaureate (Primary Years’ Program).
- Works collaboratively to provide engaging and evidence-based Literacy and Numeracy instruction.
- Actively supports curriculum change and innovation.
- Provides a stimulating, yet well-ordered learning environment that fosters the development of resilience,
- curiosity, and agency in young students.- Selects from a range of teaching strategies to personalise learning for young students, including inquiry
- practices and direct instruction.- Initiates and participates in the creative design, development, and evaluation of curriculum documents.
- Prepares and submits programs and documentation in line with Junior School guidelines.
- Utilises technology across the curriculum.
- Provides a range of differentiation strategies to address students’ individual learning needs.
- Creates learning spaces that are aesthetically aligned with Junior School pedagogies.

Student Wellbeing
- Provides genuine care for students that reflect the school’s values.
- Develops a safe and supportive classroom (and school) environment by reinforcing and following the
- School’s Behaviour Management Policy.- Proactively establishes and maintains positive relationships with parents and caregivers.
- Initiates and facilitates engaging and intentional wellbeing practices and curriculum initiatives for young

children.

Assessment and Reporting
- Maintains accurate and up to date records of student progress and growth, using formative and summative

assessment strategies.
- Ability to use student academic and wellbeing data to inform teaching and learning.
- Tracks personalised student achievement, in collaboration with Junior School Leadership.

2024
- Develops and implements innovative evaluation and assessment strategies, reflecting personal best.
- Provides relevant and meaningful feedback, regularly and promptly, to promote student learning.
- Prepares continuous reporting in line with the school’s assessment guidelines.
- Utilises digital platforms to creatively connect students and families with classroom learning.

Professional Responsibilities
- Is flexible and adaptable to change and transformation in educational settings.
- Attends relevant meetings and functions including staff meetings, parent teacher interviews and additional
- meetings as required.- Adheres to all school policies and procedures as outlined in the school’s policies and procedures manual
- and the Staff Policies, Procedures and Practices Platform.- Attends staff professional learning activities as required and actively consults current research.
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth.
- Participates in the school’s program of professional learning communities and staff review.
- Assists with the organisation of relevant school activities and attends as required.
- Proactively consults with the Head of Junior School.

Communication
- Establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues.
- Engage in appropriate communication with parents as required.
- Contribute, as appropriate, articles for the newsletter, Yearbook and other publications.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Requirements
- University qualifications in teaching and education.
- Up-to-date, relevant knowledge of student wellbeing issues, curricula and pedagogy.
- A high level of competency in information and learning technologies.
- Significant knowledge of and experience with Canvas and Microsoft Office
