TransAlta is growing its presence in Australia and has embarked on an exciting growth phase with more than 300MW of wind, solar, gas-fired generation, energy storage, and HV network projects currently in the development or execution stage. The Australian Growth Team comprises of engineering, development, and execution professionals and is accountable for developing and delivering customer-centric solutions that support a low-carbon sustainable future.
**ABOUT THE ROLE**
TransAlta is looking to hire an experienced Project Procurement Specialist to join our Australian Growth team to advance the development of TransAlta’s power generation portfolio in Australia.
This role will have a broad internal customer base across TransAlta’s Australian assets, current and future.
**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- **
Project Planning and Execution**:
- Support the successful execution of Growth and Major Projects to ensure project goals of being on time and on budget are achieved.
- As a supply chain specialist, provide specialist knowledge and experience to engineering, procurement, construction and construction management activities including providing guidance, and interpretation of TransAlta’s Purchasing and Contract policies, guidelines, and practices to internal and external project stakeholders.
- In conjunction with TransAlta’s Contracts Specialists, utilize and provide contractual and commercial expertise to develop, support and guide in the development of well-formed, protective contracts.
- Work with TransAlta’s Contracts Specialists in the development of sourcing events and the negotiation and implementation of well-formed, protective contracts.
- Identify vendors and summarize offerings for tactical and strategic project needs.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Proposal/Quote/Information/Interest and summarize offerings while employing TransAlta’s competitive bidding process and negotiation strategies to ensure end user, legal and regulatory requirements are met.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders using industry knowledge, market research and data analytics to proactive identify potential opportunities and safeguard against risks in project sourcing.
- Assist business units with the development of properly defined scopes of work to foster the formation of quality Sourcing Events and Purchase Orders.
- Lead or participate in cross-company/cross-project leveraging opportunities.
- Establish or refine contract and Purchase Order terms and conditions to meet project and risk needs.
- Provide channel to / from Supply Chain and Fleet Project and Operational Teams to exchange information and grow understanding of each area’s requirements.

Relationship Management**:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, internal customers, and stakeholders as a part of the Project Development Team. Equally, effective working relationships with TransAlta’s vendor community (established and new) are of great importance.
- Accountable for early and constant involvement with all project phases from Planning through to Close-out.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, corporate groups, and external stakeholders to ensure TransAlta's investment in all fuel sources achieves superior returns over the life of the facilities.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to coordinate cohesive interactions with key vendors.
- Support key contracts and vendor relationships to ensure satisfactory execution of deliverables and compliance with terms along with best Total Value of Ownership from critical vendors wherever possible.
- Participate in regular key vendor business reviews and aid in the fostering of key vendor relationships continuous improvement initiatives.
- Aid in the resolution of conflicts between vendor / contractor offerings and the needs of the internal customers.
