**About the team**:
The Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship Branch in Commercialisation Division is responsible for policies and programs creating an environment to increase commercialisation by entrepreneurs and innovative businesses. Our policies help inspire, connect, empower and commercialise Australian ideas to be world leading.

The Assistant Manager vacancy is in the Intellectual Property (IP) Policy sub-team of the IP Policy and Commercialisation Capability Hub Section. The IP Policy sub-team maintains a whole of government view of IP across departments and agencies which have interests in IP related policy and administration. We also co-ordinate working arrangements between these entities and promote a coherent and integrated approach to IP. The team coordinates and facilitates consolidated advice on current and emerging IP policy issues to the Government.

The Commercialisation Division is seeking an Assistant Manager to join the IP Policy team. Initially as a twelve month temporary transfer commencing from May 2024.

We are looking for experienced, thoughtful, and proactive Assistant Manager, with energy and drive, and the demonstrated ability to work respectfully and collaboratively to deliver high quality work, consistent with relevant APS standards.
- knowledge of IP law and policy, and the role of IP in the innovation system
- experience in formulating and implementing IP policy
- self-motivation, with a track record of taking responsibility and delivering results
- a high-level of written and oral communication skills
- well-developed research, analysis and problem-solving skills
- an ability to lead a small team in a dynamic working environment
- demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

**What you will do**:
As an IP policy specialist, your responsibilities will include:

- assisting with development, implementation and review of IP policy initiatives
- providing policy advice on, and analysis of, major and emerging domestic and international IP policy issues
- leading a small team providing secretariat support to the Intellectual Property Policy Group, a standing, SES Band 2 level inter-departmental committee
- preparing Ministerial briefings, correspondence and other advice in relation to IP policy issues, including co-ordination with other departments and agencies
- working with a wide range of stakeholders to meet policy objectives, including businesses, researchers and across government.

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

**Notes**:
A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
