**The Role**
Within the Data function an EL 1 Data Analyst is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex data analysis work within an integrated workforce. They will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

They will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

**About our Team**
The Data Analytics, Intelligence and Recoveries (DAIR) Directorate is responsible for analysing integrity related information to identify fraud and misconduct which may warrant further investigation.

In addition, DAIR is responsible for undertaking intelligence analysis, fraud debt recovery and providing specialist advice relating to digital forensics and eDiscovery processes to support complex investigations and fraud detection activities.

The duties of an EL 1 Data Analyst occupation in Defence include:

- Motivate and mentor teams, aligning complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results.
- Accountable to identify and undertake analysis to define, structure, solve and provide advice on complex to very complex data problems, including gathering and exploring data and meta-data from a variety of sources.
- Utilise analytical tools and techniques to define, structure and solve complex to very complex problems.
- Build and sustain strong relationships and negotiate with customers and key stakeholders to deliver tailored recommendations.
- Prepare, publish, and provide advice on complex to very complex data-based briefs, reports and advanced visualisations to inform Defence decision making.
- Accountable for the ethical use of data and interpreting and complying with legislation, Defence policy and regulatory frameworks including data management requirements.
- Responsible for management of the risks associated with the use of data including balancing security and privacy against the benefits of collecting and sharing data.
