About Us

Murdoch’s Community Development program is offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a flourishing and culturally diverse cohort in its highly-successful coursework Masters degree.

The discipline is closely aligned with other Development Studies and Public Policy programs in the Social Sciences and Arts, including Sustainable Development and International Aid.

We are seeking to appoint up a number of full-time or part-time Lecturers who will make outstanding contributions to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students, to the professional practice of the program, and to the University’s engagement with industry and community.

These roles are an excellent opportunity for early or mid-career academics and professionals in Community Development who seek to build a strong and interdisciplinary teaching portfolio in university education.

The Role

The successful applicants will work closely with others in the delivery of undergraduate and/or postgraduate units in Community Development. Our units are usually team-taught by a skilled group of academics and practitioners. Successful applicants will therefore undertake a range of teaching, research and service duties, which may include any of the following:

- Prepare and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate classes in a range of face-to-face, online and blended modes.
- Supervise honours and/or postgraduate research.
- Achieve impact through engagement with industry, community, government, media and/or higher-education organisations.
- Produce quality research outcomes.
- Contribute actively and meaningfully to the development of the discipline team.
- Undertake broad administrative functions.

What You’ll Bring to this Role

1. A PhD or equivalent industry experience in Community Development or a related discipline;

2. Demonstrated professional experience in Community Development practice, including experience with the theory and practice of such areas as:

- Professional practice,
- The role of governments in the design and implementation of social policy,
- Creative ways to work with communities,
- Working cross-culturally to support Indigenous and other communities,
- Industry engagement in community development,
- Leading change, and
- Community action;

3. Demonstrated skills and experience in working within an intercultural setting;

4.Demonstrated experience in innovative teaching, and the ability to deliver high-quality student experiences in face-to-face and online learning;

5. Excellent communicative ability in English;

6. Demonstrated commitment to promote student engagement and retention;

7. Capacity to engage in outreach activities that promote university programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences;

8. Demonstrated ability to engage in quality research activities in an area that complements the research strengths of our School;

9. Excellent problem-solving, time management and interpersonal skills; and

10. Well-developed interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work independently, flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment, and proficient administrative skills to support academic duties in the discipline and School.
