**Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.
Major Projects Branch (MPB) is part of a dynamic team within the Department of Climate Change and the Environment (DCCEEW), reporting directly to the Director of National Parks (DNP) and Division Head. The MPB plays a crucial role in delivering capital infrastructure works programs across the terrestrial national parks in Australia. These programs contribute to joint management of the Parks with their Traditional Owners as well as their preservation and enhancement for all Australians.
MPB is responsible for the following within our six Commonwealth national parks:
- Managing infrastructure assets
- Managing capital works project planning and delivery
- Strategic asset management
Our terrestrial parks are owned by Traditional Owners managed jointly:
- Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (UKTNP)
- Kakadu National Park (KNP)
- Booderee National Park (BNP)
The three island national parks are:
- Christmas Island National Park (CINP)
- Pulu Keeling National Park (PKNP)
- Norfolk Island National Park (NINP)
By effectively managing infrastructure assets, overseeing capital works projects, and implementing strategic asset management practices, the MPB plays a crucial role in supporting the conservation and management of biodiversity and cultural heritage within the Commonwealth national parks. MPB's work contributes to the fulfillment of the Director of National Parks' mandate under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and helps ensure the sustainability and enjoyment of these national treasures for current and future generations.
The Business Support unit in Major Projects Branch plays a key role in supporting our Project Managers deliver construction projects across the Parks Australia terrestrial parks. These projects are being delivered in both remote and iconic locations.
**The Job**
- Provide administrative support to our Project Management Office and business support unit
- Support the branch achieves its outcomes by delivering sound secretarial support to a number of committees, drafting quality communication items and by employing excellence in the coordination of your tasks and of people generally
- Be that enthusiastic team player engaging and working effectively with a range of both internal team members and external stakeholders to achieve team goals
- Invest in and build effective relationships across the team, branch and Parks Australia
- Be a willing participant in organisational discussions and forums
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Exposure to a Project and Program Management environment
- Competent knowledge of and familiarity in the use of Office software incl. Microsoft Word. Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
- Experience in the development of written correspondence to support coordination activity
- Experience to engage and work effectively with a geographically dispersed team
- Demonstrated experience balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Sound judgement and a common-sense approach
